NeighborWorks® Dakota Home Resources has many annual events and opportunities to get involved in your community. You may contact Sharon Martinisko if you would like to get involved in any of the activities you see listed here. The following is an overview of those activities.
Paint the Town is an annual event where NeighborWorks® Dakota Home Resources has partnered with South Dakota Housing, that has taken place every spring since 1994. During the first three weeks of June, teams of volunteers go to a home of the Paint the Town recipient, someone who can not paint their house for themselves, and paint their home.
This annual event takes place in June and is a community wide yard sale sponsored by NeighborWorks® Dakota Home Resources and the Lead and Deadwood Chambers of Commerce. Residents can sign up to be put on a map of all the yard sales in the communities of Lead, Deadwood, and Central City during the designated weekend.
KidWeird October 31st, 2011 -
KidWeird is an annual event that takes place the night before DeadWeird at the Deadwood Pavilion. Activities include a haunted house, costume contest, trick or treating on Trick or Treat Lane, and games. Donations are collected for the local food shelf during this event.
Trolley on the Trail- Fall, Spring, Summer
This annual event is a partnership with the Deadwood Trolley and takes place three times during the summer. Trolley on the Trail gives people who are disabled or elderly an opportunity to take a ride on the Deadwood Trolley and see the Mickelson Trail.
Tour of Lights-Winter - December
The Tour of Lights is another partnership with the Trolley Department in Deadwood. People may make reservations to ride the Deadwood Trolley through the cities of Deadwood, Lead, and Central City and see all the Christmas lights. All riders are asked to bring a donation for the local food shelf.
This event takes place every October and allows for residents who can't winterize their homes themselves to have someone come in and winterize their home for them. In 2009 and 2010, we partnered with Black Hills Power to make this event possible.
