Governors
House Program
In 2000, NHS partnered with South Dakota Housing Development Authority’s Governor’s House
Program.The program was
initiated in 1996 by South Dakota Governor Bill Janklow to provide reasonably sized and affordable homes for income-qualified individuals and families. These 1008 sq.ft. two-bedroom, stick built homes, are constructed at the South Dakota Department of Corrections’ Springfield facility. The homes are low maintenance and energy efficient.

Since participating in the program NHS has assisted 47 families with the purchase of Governor’s Houses within its service area. For more information on the Governor's House Program visit South Dakota Housing Development Authority at www.sdha.org.

"Having never owned a new home, or any home since the 80's this is a pretty incredible event in our lives. We take great pride in finally having our own home even though it is late in our lives and we hope to have many good years here."
