Make A Difference Day
Make A Difference Day is a unique program that inspires and rewards volunteers throughout the country. A national day of helping others - a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors. Make A Difference Day is an annual event that takes place on the fourth Saturday of every October. The next Make A Difference Day is scheduled for October 27, 2007.
In celebration of this year's Make A Difference Day, NHS will be sponsoring Warm & Safe Awareness. This program is designed to assist area seniors with the weatherization of their homes. On October 27th, volunteers from Central City, Deadwood, Lead, Edgemont and Wall will converge on the homes of seniors who have applied for weatherization assitance. The volunteers will add caulking to windows, put up window insulation, weather strip doors and hang storm windows.
For Lead-Deadwood area residents, the Deadwood and Lead Volunteer Fire Departments will be participating in the event by checking smoke dectors and replacing batteries. Black Hills Power & Light will be conducting energy audits to determine additional measures that can be taken to save the senior money on their energy cost.
